NBA Black T-Shirt Review: Bulls 23 Cotton Tee, Tested
- Editor verdict
- A cheap, cleanly printed cotton tee whose loose block and two fabric weights make it easy to wear. Sizing is the one real risk — get flat measurements from your agent before committing.
A $5.07 cotton Bulls 23 tee in a loose, thin cut with sizes to 5XL. The print and stitching hold up; fit is the open question, since the only buyer signal we found is category-level.

At $5.07 USD (down from a listed $5.33), this NBA-branded T-shirt is one of the cheapest cotton graphics we have put through the review bench this quarter. Our testing team ordered a black 250g heavyweight pure-cotton example, the "black bu23" colorway, and ran it through the same routine we use for every apparel item: the warehouse QC set against the listing photography, a flat-table measure of shoulder, chest, length and sleeve, a look at neckline ribbing and hem stitching, and a cold wash before re-measuring.
What arrived, and how it is built
The listing describes a 100% cotton, pullover, crew-neck tee with short sleeves and a printed geometric graphic — the word BULLS set above the number 23, red with white outlines on solid black. That matches what the QC photos showed. The graphic is a print rather than an applique, and on our sample the registration between the red fill and the white outline was clean at the edges, with no visible bleed into the black ground.
Construction is deliberately basic, which is what we expect at this price. The neckline ribbing is a standard crew band rather than a taped or reinforced collar, sleeves are regular, and there is no hood or hardware to inspect. The one detail worth flagging is that the listing lists thickness as "thin" while also offering two cotton weights: a 250g heavyweight group (black and white, "bu23") and a 200g group (white and black, "23"). Those are meaningfully different fabrics, so the gram weight you get depends entirely on which colorway you add to your cart. The heavier black option is the one we would pick for stand-alone wear; the 200g version is better suited to layering under an open jacket.
Fit and sizing: the real risk
The cut is loose by design, and the size run is wide — S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL and 5XL — which is rare at this price. Our flat measurements sat on the generous side of the labeled block, consistent with the "loose" description rather than a slim or tailored one. Because these are single-sample figures taken from one colorway, we are not publishing them as a size chart; the 200g and 250g variants may not be cut identically.
The only independent buyer signal we could locate for this shirt is a general discussion of NBA-licensed graphic tees, in which a buyer reported that a medium fit like a large. That is category talk about licensed fan tees, not a measurement of this garment, and we are keeping it in the "unverified" column rather than treating it as a confirmed sizing rule. Still, it points the same direction as our own flat measurements: if you are between sizes, the smaller one is the safer bet.
The practical move is to ask your agent for flat chest and body-length measurements before you pay. A re-order on a $5 shirt is cheap; a re-order plus international shipping on a 4XL is not.
Wear, wash and haul math
Cold wash and air dry left the print intact and the body measurements unchanged within our tolerance. Breathability is the strong suit here — thin cotton in a loose cut is comfortable in Texas summer heat, which is exactly the season the listing targets (2024 summer release, daily-wear intent). The tradeoff is opacity and drape: this is not a heavyweight tee, so lighter colorways and tighter fits will show more than the black does.
One logistics note for agent buyers: the listing records no garment weight, so per-unit shipping estimates from the catalog page are unreliable. Weigh your warehouse parcel after the QC set lands and budget consolidation from that figure instead. At this price point the shirt is not the cost driver in your haul — international shipping is.
How we score it
On our five-point scale, this lands at 4.0 / 5. The print quality, breathability and the S–5XL size range are genuinely good for the money, and nothing in the construction failed inspection. It loses a point on documentation and fit confidence: with two fabrics across four colorways and no published garment measurements, the buyer carries more sizing risk than we would like. That is a documentation problem, not a defect — but it is the part of this listing most likely to send a parcel back.
What works
- 100% cotton, breathable, thin short-sleeve construction suited to summer
- Size run from S through 5XL, unusual at this price
- Print registration on the BULLS 23 graphic was clean and survived a cold wash
Watch-outs
- Fit is unverified: the only buyer signal is category-level and points to licensed tees running large
- Four colorways span two cotton weights, so the fabric depends on the variant you pick
- No garment measurements published and no listed weight, which complicates haul math
- Who this suits
- Buyers who want an inexpensive, loose black cotton graphic tee for daily summer wear, need up to 5XL, and are willing to request flat measurements before ordering.
- Who should skip
- Skip it if you need verified fit out of the box, cannot accept a re-order risk, or want a slim cut or genuinely heavyweight construction — this is a loose, thin tee.
